What a great book with great stories! I haven’t read a memoir like this in a long time. The author went into great detail about his life. For me, I really enjoyed hearing about his early years and his time in the Army (and in Vietnam). I think these are the types of things that really shape someone into who they are. 

The next phase of his life was interesting for me as well. Hearing of this time in Denver, working construction and then building his own business was very relatable for me. I also spent a great deal of my years in Denver and then began building a business. It’s fun to read about places I’ve been to or have lived in. All throughout his stories, the author does a fantastic job keeping you interested and making sure you can imagine the scene in your mind. I loved hearing about the times on the dive boat, the whole metaphysical exploration, and the times in the deserts of Arizona and Southern Colorado. It all kept me interested and kept me reading.

All of the places that were traveled to, made my imagination come alive even more than I thought they would. There were more adventures in this book than I thought there would be. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this and especially what I think was the take-home message: Live your life and all its unexpected adventures to the fullest. I’m so glad I purchased this and will recommend it to all my fellow avid readers!

... but also of a life uncannily influenced by esoteric and distinctly occult events in the fabric of destiny.

Written in an easy flowing style that is pleasant to read, this memoir tells the story of a life that included a variety of experiences in a world that was considerably different to the one of today. As an ex-soldier myself, the experiences of being a soldier in Vietnam and the horrific memories of it, including lifelong PTSD symptoms, was particularly interesting and vivid. The accounts of his experiences once he returned to America and the simple fact of his American dream to enjoy a happy marriage with children and a decent home to live in, was an unattainable ambition. Not only as a result of the situation faced by many returning vets but also the social conditions that were prevalent during that period.

The results were a life that deviated along interesting and "Random Tangents," that resulted in him experiencing many different, adventures, countries, and people across the world. Of particular interest was his story of a fortune-teller who gave him a set of specific predictions, all of which actually came true. Even more compelling, is the parallel story of his inner quest to find a grand meaning for life and our existence here on earth, and some of the explanations that he has received or learned. The final inspiring message of the book is that whatever you choose to do in life, you should not forget that the experiences and people that you meet, may appear to be part of a series of random events, but they will indelibly influence your life and your own unique position in the universe, forever.

I really enjoyed this book. It is a true memoir of a life filled with adventures. At times it seems impossible that so much can happen to one man. The author, Greg Hawk, describes his life and ties his adventures in with a series of predictions made by a gypsy woman. He served in Vietnam and I found his description of life as an ordinary soldier in that war to be one of the most authentic that I have ever read or seen on film. There are very interesting passages about his time with his boat in Australia, selling dive charters and when being a treasure hunter in the Southwest. This book made me feel that I have been wasting valuable time when I could have been having adventures!
